I recently ran across the the website sitorsquat.com I thought it was interesting, but the interesting part started to eat at me until I was forced to write about it. So basically for the newbies to sitorsquat.com the website basically is designed to help travelers find a clean restroom. Just like we rank restaurants, sit or squat is designed to rank restrooms. I think back to the days when my parents ran a small general store in Marysvale Utah. My dad had a signmaker build a sign that advertised “Clean Restrooms”. My mother was adamant about our checking the restrooms frequently and wiping, mopping, sanitizing, and emptying the trash. When I was a teen, it didn’t make that much sense to me, but now I’m pretty picky about my restrooms when I travel. Nothing turns me off more than finding a dirty restroom at a great food establishment. I pick my gas stations on routes that I travel based upon many things but I definitely consider the restroom cleanliness.
So it made me wonder, how many businesses don’t even realize that Toilet Talk might be destroying their business. I also find it interesting that without a review the default on SitorSquat.com is “Squat”. So it’s guilty until proven innocent. With a little effort you can find some submitted photo’s on sitorsquat.com, I can only imagine where this is headed if a restroom is in a very bad state! (We have all seen them). I think about the scene in Grumpy Old Men where Burgess Meredith tells Jack Lemmon she can learn a lot about a person by looking at his bathroom. I can learn a lot about how a business operates by how the bathroom is kept. In fact at a restaurant, it tells me more than I want to know most of the time!!
Is your business on sitorsquat.com are you monitoring the comments, the rankings? Should sitorsquat.com be on your social media radar? I am thinking yes!! I am thinking you can tell me all you want about your great food, great service, great hospitality but if your restrooms are horrible, I’m probably not listening
